The International Literacy Association (ILA), formally the International Reading Association is recognizing Granville Elementary School in Prescott Valley for its exemplary literacy program. Each year one school from every state is acknowledged for outstanding reading programs that are comprehensive, creative and effective.
Cathy Trotter, instructional specialist at Granville, will accept the ILA award this summer in Saint Louis. She will be displaying the school's literacy programs by video at the ILA Conference on July 17.
Granville Elementary School went through a rigorous evaluation process to qualify for the award. .
"I was most impressed at the atmosphere of the school that reflected orderliness, student engagement, collaboration and happy faces. Also, the variety of programs offers learning opportunities for every type learner," remarks Mona Gillum, Arizona Reading Council President.
Bucky Bates is Granville's principal.
