Don't be a crankcase; drive over to Watson Lake Park on Saturday and Sunday Aug. 1-2 for the Prescott Antique Auto Club's annual Watson Lake Show. Now in its 41st year, the show will have everything from classic and antique automobiles to old engines from the 1800s.
Club President and Show Manager Scott Hein said that the club itself started in 1970, with the show's inception not long after. Hein said that the show was originally quite small, but has become very big, noting that there are typically about 200 cars on Saturday with a little fewer Sunday, with 130 vendors showing up both days to sell and exchange parts and tools.
There's also the Old Engine Fire-Up Area, which Hein said is unique and is made up of antique and old engines, tractors, steam engines, novelty equipment and unique vehicles.
"We have dozens of people that bring old engines from the 1800s," he said.
Hein also spoke of the Car Corral, where people can park their cars for $20 all weekend to sell. He said the corral is like a big car lot.
Over the entire weekend, Hein said that over 40 trophies will be given out at the show, including four special trophies on Sunday in the categories of Model T's, Volkswagens, motorcycles and rat rods, a style of cars that imitates custom hotrods.
Hein said that the show is the perfect event for those who love old, antique, and modern classic cars, mentioning that all the cars at the show will be from 1990 or older.
"We have a lot of cars from the 40s to the 60s," Hein said. "If you love cars, it's the premiere event to go to in 2015 in Prescott."
Admission to the show is $5 for both days and Hein said that all the money that comes in from the show is used for three purposes: sponsoring Yavapai College scholarships, Christmas gifts to veterans at the Prescott Veteran's Hospital, and for the maintenance and display of the restored Prescott's Seagrave #1 ladder truck. Hein said that the truck has been in every major parade in Prescott since its restoration.
The Watson Lake Show will be from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1-2 at Watson Lake Park. For more information, visit www.paacaz.com.
