Heading downtown for some food can cause some serious indecision due to the number of eateries in downtown Prescott. One choice is the Prescott Brewing Company, a brewpub that has been in business for about 21 years. With a menu that includes craft brews, burgers and more, diners can come in expecting a consistent atmosphere.
Owner John Nielsen said that he and his wife opened Prescott Brewing Company in 1994, noting that it was his dream to open a brewpub.
"We were kind of the pioneers in the craft beer movement and one of the first wave of craft brewers to come around and open brewpubs," Nielsen said. "I'd been making beer myself for many years and really enjoyed it and had won quite a few blue ribbons in county fairs and other state fairs and just knew that it was something I wanted to do."
According to Nielsen, Prescott Brewing Company gets a steady flow of regulars that come in, stating that during the hot summer months, there is an influx of people from Phoenix. And it's no wonder that people flock in and keep coming back: Prescott Brewing Company is well liked, with an average of three and a half stars out of five from sites like yelp.com (310 reviews), tripadvisor.com (501 reviews) and zomato.com (24 reviews).
"I always make it a point to visit them on my trips to Prescott."
"If you are in Prescott, this spot is not to be missed."
"I like a great beer. And a great beer with great food is even better. You get both here at a reasonable price."
"Great selection of local brew!"
"Always one of my favorite places in town to eat!"
And Nielsen said people say constantly that Prescott Brewing Company is consistent.
"That they can count on the food always being the same, always being good. The service is friendly, almost like family, because a lot of them have been here many, many years," Nielsen said.
According to Nielsen, the most popular single menu item is the fish and chips (served w/ wedged potato pub chips, cole slaw and tarragon mayo, $12.99 full order and $9.99 half order). However, he added that overall, the burgers sell more.
And the place does have a lot of burgers, which Nielsen said are all ground in-house. There's the Triple-Threat Jalapeno Burger (half pound freshly ground burger topped w/ jalapeno jack cheese, hand-cut jalapeno bacon, and crispy fried jalapeno slices piled high on choice of challah, ciabatta or onion-cheddar roll, $14.49); signature Pub Burger (half pound ground beef patty, charbroiled to perfection and served on choice of challah, ciabatta or onion-cheddar roll w/ choice of cheddar, Swiss, provolone or jalapeno jack cheese, $10.99, open-faced on garlic toast w/ chili and cheddar for $11.99); Brmeister Burger (topped w/ house dip, a creamy blend of artichoke hearts, scallions, parmesan cheese and sour cream served on choice of challah, ciabatta or onion-cheddar roll, $11.99); Peppercorn Gorgo Burger (ground beef burger encrusted w fresh cracked peppercorns and served on ciabatta bread w/ crispy onion straws and a gorgonzola cheese spread, $11.99) and Honey Mustard Turkey Burger (lean ground turkey seasoned and grilled, topped w/ Swiss cheese and signature honey-mustard sauce served on a toasted challah roll, $9.99)
As for what's on tap, the list of beers available changes on a weekly basis.
Nielsen said he loves the customers and his staff, stating that there's never a dull moment and that he looks forward to another 20 years.
Prescott Brewing Company is located at 130 W. Gurley St and is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
