Doo-Wop Divas perform at The Elks Jan. 31
Hearken back to the days of greasers and hippies as Lonely Street Productions brings Doo-Wop Divas, its salute to the girl groups of the 1950s and 1960s to the Elks Theater Saturday, Jan. 31.
Trish Thayer, director of operations for Lonely Street Productions, said this is the second time Doo-Wop Divas have performed at the Elks. She said the show was presented two years ago when it was first on tour.
"It was very popular the first time we did it," Thayer said. "I think it was close to a sold out house."
Consisting of Crystal Stark, Erin Helm, Trisha Ditsworth and Chezale Rodriguez backed up by a five-piece band led by musical director Jenn Cristy, the show is full of chart-topping doo-wop and early rock 'n' roll hits.
Stark has been involved with Lonely Street Productions for a few years, stating she was part of the last run of Doo-Wop Divas. She spoke very highly of the show.
"Every song is great," Stark said. "People will want to sing along to it, move to it and it will bring back memories of first dates and first dances. It's a walk down memory lane."
Stark said she is honored to be able to be a part of the show as she gets to sing songs that aren't everyday tunes anymore.
Thayer echoed Stark's notion of the show bringing people back to the good ol days, noting it brings nostalgia to the 55 and older crowd. However, she also said that younger audiences would enjoy it.
"Anybody who appreciates good music, good talent and lovely ladies who are really talented will enjoy it," Thayer said.
Doo-Wop Divas will be at the Elks Theater and Performing Arts Center, 117 East Gurley St., and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $22, $25 and $30, depending on seat location.
Other shows Lonely Street Productions is bringing to The Elks Theater include the Surf Rock Beach Party on Friday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. and Tumblin' Tumbleweeds Sunday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.
