Upcoming talks on desert hiking
The Prescott Valley Public Library hosts three free presentations for hikers in February.
Flora for Hikers: Wildflowers
Sonoran Desert Destinations takes place from 6-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, in the PC Lab on the second floor. Assistant Library Director Ted Johnson will feature a novel plant identification tool to help identify plants at 12 popular hiking destinations in the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona.
The second presentation, Flora for Hikers: Cacti and Cactus Look-a-likes in Sonoran Desert Destinations, takes place also on a Monday, Feb. 9, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the second floor PC Lab. Learn what distinguishes a cactus from an agave or ocotillo. Knowing a plant's name is the first step toward understanding its value to wildlife and perhaps to one's survival.
On Monday, Feb. 23, from 6-7:30 p.m., Johnson will talk about the Magnificent 7: Grand Circle Hikes, also in the second floor PC Lab. The Grand Circle contains America's largest concentration of national parks and monuments, woven together by extraordinary scenic byways.
Space is limited; reservations suggested but not required. For more information, call 928-759-3036 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
