Obituary: Christopher G. Watson
Chris passed peacefully on Dec. 24, 2014, at his home in Chino Valley, Arizona. He was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, to Mary and John Watson.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Watson of Chino Valley, Arizona; daughter Merry Caswell and son-in-law Jerry Caswell of Cave Creek, Arizona; stepdaughter Amy Skinner and son-in-law Brian of Chino Valley; five grandchildren, Lee, Tim, Matt, Katie and Brian; and five great-grandchildren, Allie, Stockton, Lisette, Steele and Nathan. Chris was predeceased by brothers Bill, Arnold, Dick and sister Janet. He is survived by sisters Jean and Beth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chris was inducted into the Quarter Horse Hall of Fame on Jan. 11, 2014. In addition to training and breeding horses, Chris judged events for the American Quarter Horse Association, saddle clubs, Pony of America, mule shows and 4H, as well as being a top-notch roper.
Chris served as vice president and director for Arizona Quarter Horse Association, president of Arizona Professional Horsemen Association and co-founder of Arizona Stallion Breeder Fraternity Association.
A celebration of Chris' life will be 2 p.m. Jan. 10, 2015, at Sheriff's Mounted Posse Clubhouse, 12401 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Horses with Hearts, 1705 S. Highway 89, Chino Valley, AZ 86323, in memory of Chris Watson.
