Letter: Racial profiling
This letter is to comment on "Buz" William's editorial in yesterday's Courier. According to Buz, "Agendas stand in the way of truth". The first thing that struck me, while reading his "police minded" take on the tragic events in Ferguson and Staten Island, was that Buz, himself, has an agenda. That agenda would be, to play to his mostly white, older, male base. He berates Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson, who are leaders in the black community, and they should be there when a tragedy happens. What's missing from your editorial, Buz, is the fact that Police do racial profiling, all the time. This in part leads to mistrust by the black population, and rightly so. Laws such as "stand your ground" certainly don't help the situation. Light skinned or white men getting away with murder, because they feel threatened, by a teenager. Now, that tragedy was something our whole country had to bear. Your take on situations involving black unrest in this country are biased, Buz, and in my opinion, not very helpful.
