I'm FreeDon't grieve for me, for now I'm free; I'm following the path God laid for me.I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all.If my parting has left a void; Then fill it with remembered joy.My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.Lift up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now. He set me free.-Author UnknownGene Pascol Jones, 88, passed peacefully early Thursday morning, Jan. 22, 2015, at The Margaret T. Morris Center in Prescott, Arizona.Gene was born in Kenmore, Ohio, to Thelma and James Jones, May 12, 1926. He married the love of his life, Bonna M. Rice (Bonnie), May 12, 1949, in Canton, Ohio. They celebrated 55 years of marriage, until her death in October 2004. They had two children, Bruce and Janene. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1959, where Gene owned a carpet business, worked as a real estate broker and worked in construction management.Gene was a 65-year member of the Wayfarer Lodge No. 789 Masons, Akron, Ohio; a 52-year member of the Phoenix Scottish Rite Bodies; and a 52-year member of Phoenix El Zaribah Shriners.Hunting and fishing with his brothers, square dancing with Bonnie, tinkering in his garage, meeting friends at a local restaurant, and crossword puzzles were but a few things he enjoyed. But most important in his life were family and friends. His never-ending wit, clever smile and chuckle, along with his classic words "sure glad you got to see me ...," gentlemanly ways, and more than generous heart were characteristics that made him an only "one of a kind" guy. Gene is survived by brothers, James, Jerrie and Jeffery; son Bruce; grandchildren Genese and Brian; and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, one sister and one brother. Cremation services provided by Best Funeral Services, Peoria, Arizona. There will be no services at Gene's request. In lieu of flowers, memory gift donations would be appreciated "In Memory of Gene P. Jones" to The Margaret T. Morris Center, 878 Sunset Ave., Prescott, AZ 86305, www.adultcareservices.org; and/or El Zaribah Shriners, 552 N. 40th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008; www.shrinerschildrenshospital.org.
