Letter: Library support appreciated

We are grateful to every person who participated to make this year's Adult Summer Reading program at the Prescott Valley Public Library a success.

Participants had the opportunity to "Escape the Ordinary" and read new authors and attend any number of programs from T.E.D Talks to Desert Survival. For every minute of reading or attending an event, minutes were logged into their accounts.

Everyone who participated was entered into the drawing for numerous prizes donated by the following sponsors: Ace Hardware, Antelope Lanes, Backburner Restaurant, Blackboard Café, Buffalo Wild Wings, Carl's Jr., Chili's, Cork & Cuisine, Cosmopolitan Salon, Encanto Grill, Garcia's Mexican Restaurant, Harkin's Theatres, McDonald's, Ocean Blue Car Wash, Olive Garden, Safeway, SAS Shoemakers, Streets of New York, Taco Bell, Walmart, Wendy's, and Yellow Leaf Coffee .

This year's grand prize winner of a fabulous KindleFire HD6, donated by the Friends of the Library, was Jeanne Barstad, who said, "I really enjoyed keeping track of how many hours I actually read. It reminded me of my childhood library experiences. Thank you so much."

The Teen Department would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the teens who participated in this year's summer reading program, and a huge thanks to the parents who encouraged their teens to participate.

We would also like to thank Chipotle for the free food coupons. Each teen that attended our launch party received a welcome backpack that included those food coupons along with several other fun items. We had a fabulous summer reading program with many fun events including Wii Olympics, craft days and a fabulous launch party. A big thank you to Sue Tone for featuring our events in the Prescott Valley Tribune - our teens loved seeing their pictures in the paper!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Children's Summer Reading program this year and logged minutes and events online with the new Great Reading Adventure software.

A total of 490 children registered, including 123 pre-readers (ages 0-4) and 367 kids (ages 5-11). Those participants who met the program goal of 1,000 minutes read between June 1 and July 25 received a free book, food coupons from Chipotle and Del Taco, and certificates for reusable bags from Trader Joe's. Thank you, donors! You made the program even more fun!
