SA Hill fire grows to 380 acres
CLEATOR - The SA Hill fire, started by a lightning strike Sunday, August 2, has reached 380 acres and is not yet contained, U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Debbie Maneely said Monday.
The fire is burning through brush, pinyon pine, juniper and grass about 3 miles northwest of Cleator and about 5 miles southwest of Mayer, heading north.
"Firefighters will continue to secure and established a boundary line on the south and east sides of the fire and scout the north and west sides for containment options," Maneely said. "Activity and growth on the fire will increase today due to drier conditions and continuous dry grass."
The fire is burning in rugged, rocky terrain with limited access, Maneely said. Smoke will be visible to motorists on Highway 69, Interstate 17 and surrounding communities, she added.
