For the carnivores of the world, there's nothing quite like a tender, juicy steak, especially one from the best cuts. For those venturing down to Dewey, one place to get a steak, or any sort of barbecue, is Leff-Ts Steakhouse and Grill. Owned by Daryl Davis and his wife, the former having been in the restaurant business since the 1970s, Leff-T's serves up an eclectic steak and barbecue menu.
Davis said he got into the restaurant business in 1971, working for Lowry's restaurants as the head bar manager and ran a major steakhouse chain in Southern California for 15 years. After moving to Arizona he went to school to learn how to feed animals, managing an Olsen's Grain for 14 years, before returning to the restaurant business about eight or nine years ago.
"I missed the business," he said. "It gets in your blood. It's a fast-paced business... it keeps me occupied, keeps my brain going."
Davis said he and his wife took Leff-Ts over from the previous owners when they turned it back to the owner of the property, who didn't want to run it.
Leff-T's gets customers from all over the place, Davis said, noting that there are regular diners as well as those who come from Phoenix as well as out of state with their families. "Everything I do is top of the line, they come here for a good steak, great service," Davis said. "A lot of the stuff we do is Midwestern... a lot of people come from different areas of the country and they find out 'wow this is kind of an eclectic menu' so it's very popular."
And Leff-T's is quite a hit among Internet reviewers, averaging four out of five stars based on ratings from yelp.com (67 reviews), tripadvisor.com (37 reviews) and urbanspoon.com (15 reviews).

According to Davis, the most popular menu item is the ribeye steak (well aged, marbled, juicy and flavorful, $21.99 for 10 oz. and $28.99 for bone in 16 oz.). Other cuts include the Top Sirloin (center cut, lean, $17.99 for 8 oz. and $23.99 for 12 oz.) and the Filet Mignon ($23.99 for 6 oz. and $27.99 for 8 oz.)
But there's also barbecue, like the Mesquite Smoked Chicken ($12.99 for a quarter chicken and $16.99 for half) and Mesquite Smoked Baby Back Ribs ($16.99 for half rack and $23.99 for whole rack) and the chicken and ribs combo ($16.99 for quarter and $23.99 for half).
Leff-T's also has burgers, including the Rodeo Burger (fresh ground burger with cheddar cheese, bacon, onion straws and barbecue sauce, garnished with lettuce, tomato and pickle, $10.99), the South of the Border Burger (fresh ground burger with diced green chilis, jalapeno jack cheese and fresh sliced avocado, garnished with pickle and lettuce, $10.99) and the Leff-T's Chili Burger (fresh ground burger served open faced smothered with Leff-T's chili, topped with a blend of jack and cheddar cheese and red onion, $9.99).
The restauraunt also has fajitas, pasta and for those who want a little surf with the turf, Walleye, Shrimp and Salmon.
Davis said what he loves most about owning Leff-Ts is the fast pace.
"When you go to to work, you want to go to work," he said. "This is something we want to do every day."
