Prescott chalk art festival set for April 18-19

The seventh annual Chalk It Up! Prescott festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the National Bank of Arizona parking lot at the corner of Willis and Montezuma. The event offers free chalking spaces and chalk for participants of all ages to work side by side with professional artists, through the generous sponsorships of more than 50 community business and organizations.

"Anyone can enjoy Chalk It Up! Prescott, whether you have artistic talent or not," stated Laura Norman, executive director of the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic Foundation. "This event is about having fun and being creative."

Attendees can actively chalk it up, enjoy the talented local entertainers or walk around to view the imaginative artwork of the chalking participants. In addition to the parking lot chalking spaces, ceramic tiles are available for those who might have difficulty with bending, so they can chalk it up with a tile on their laps.

Several featured and guest artists will return again, such as Lori Antoinette. Antoinette is a graduate of Fine Art from the University of Maryland, College Park, who started out as an oil and acrylics painter. But when she discovered chalk art on the ground more than 20 years ago, it was love at first chalk.

According to Antoinette, "Art is a lifestyle, a way of being, and a way of inner realization. It can be auditory, visual, and written, internal and/or external. It makes us who we are. It defines us! It makes us alive!"

Local entertainment includes New Moon Tribal Bellydance, Fusion of Movement Adult Dancers, The Dance Studio Rhythm Motion, Dfly 5 Family Band, and Hoop Fixation, Switch Performing Arts, The Gurley Girls, Chupacabras and Twisted Tubulum.

Join the fun April 18-19. All proceeds benefit community mental health programs supported by the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic Foundation. For more information about the event, visit
