1st place for Chino girls cross country runners in Wickenburg
Chino Valley girls 1st, boys 2nd at Wickenburg meet
With 23 points, the Chino Valley girls' cross country team won a four-way meet on the 3.1-mile course Wednesday at Wickenburg Country Club.
Estrella Foothills was runner-up with 32 points, but Wickenburg and Parker didn't register team scores.
On the boys' side, the Cougars took second with 49 points behind first-place Estrella Foothills (31). Parker also scored 49 points, but finished third because Chino Valley won the tiebreaker with a faster sixth-place runner. Wickenburg did not tally a team score.
Individually for the Cougars' boys, McKenzie Nez won the race in 19:08. Uriel Saldana (seventh, 21:34) and Travis Rowitsch (ninth, 22:15) finished among the top 10.
For the Chino girls, Rosio Aguiar led her team with a fourth-place time of 27:44. McKeisha Nez (fifth, 28:02), Hannah Sanders (seventh, 28:36) and Cheyanne Penton (eighth, 28:47) also made the top 10.
Chino Valley will run in the Peaks Invitational in Flagstaff on Saturday.
