Ruth Helmer, our strong, quiet, bright light, passed away Aug. 6, 2014, with her family. Born Sept. 4, 1928, to Mildred and Clarence Hodges, Ruth was raised with her two brothers, Burton and Wayne, in Perry, Mich.
Ruth married Robert Helmer on Dec. 15, 1956, and they were together in marriage and friendship for 53 years. They raised their children Jeffrey and Susan, in Niles, Mich. Ruth had degrees in nursing and education. As a nurse, she worked in hospitals, schools and in the public health field. Upon completing her education degree, she worked for Homestart and an in-home nutrition program. The job we most valued was her job as stay-at-home mom. Ruth's passion was doing fine art, especially photography. After retirement, Ruth and Robert Helmer made their home in Chino Valley, Ariz.
Ruth is survived by her son Jeffrey Helmer; daughter Susan Jassam; daughter-in-law Jean Helmer; son-in-law Faozi Jassam; granddaughters Nicole Anne Helmer and Layla Jassam; and brother Burton Hodges.
