Collision on Highway 169 sends three to hospitals
DEWEY - Three people were taken to hospitals Tuesday night after two vehicles collided on Highway 169, according to a Central Yavapai Fire District spokesman.
CYFD crews responded about 7 p.m. to a crash on Highway 169 just east of Orme Road. A small car and a full-size pickup collided head-on, causing heavy damage, Division Chief Rick Chase said.
The car was trying to pass a tractor-trailer rig headed northbound when the driver crossed the centerline and struck the pickup, which was headed south, Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia said.
Firefighters extricated two men, the driver, 19, and a passenger, 23, from the car, Chase said. They were both flown to John C. Lincoln North Hospital in Phoenix with life-threatening injuries.
The pickup's driver, a 69-year-old man, was taken to Yavapai Regional Medical Center-East by Life Line Ambulance with minor injuries, Garcia said
