James "Jim" Smith passed away Oct. 15, 2014, after a long illness of ALS.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Marie and Ralph Smith.

At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Army during WWII. Jim and Cathy were married at Saint Mark's Catholic Church in Venice, Calif. March 11, 1961 and lived most of their time in Orange County, Calif. They bought their house in Prescott in 1976 and lived here for two years before returning to California. They moved back to Prescott to live full time after Jim retired from McDonnell Douglas (Boeing). Jim's main enjoyment was getting together with his family. He also enjoyed reading, and had volunteered at the Prescott VA and was a member of the American Legion Post 6. During his illness, he said that he couldn't thank the VA and Good Samaritan Hospice enough for all that they did for him. Jim was affectionately known as Pop to his sons and all their friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Cathy; and their two sons, Ron (Twiggy) and grandson Zeph from Chino Valley and son Mike (Lorie) from Glendale; his sisters-in-law, Joan and Delores; and many special nieces and nephews also survive him.

Inurnment with full Military Honors will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the Prescott National Cemetery, corner of Highway 69 and Highway 89.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at the Mountain Club Clubhouse, 910 Clubhouse Drive.
