The Central Arizona Concert Band will open its 2014-15 season with a concert 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
The centerpiece of this first concert will be Gustav Holst's "Second Suite for Military Band," a work that has become so popular that, during a summer stroll through London's parks, one might hear its performance by more than one military band, said Clydene Dechert, music director and conductor of the Central Arizona Concert Band.
The program will also include Johann Strauss' "Thousand and One Nights Waltz," as well as two medleys of popular tunes from "Phantom of the Opera" and "Gladiator."
The Central Arizona Concert Band's members include many professional and retired professional musicians and talented student musicians.
Admission for adults is $10 and, for students with ID, $3. Tickets will be available at the door. Seating is open.
