Prominent Arizona Realtor James E. Ashby passed away at his home on Nov. 17, 2014, with family at his side, along with his Hospice of The Valley support team. He was born May 20, 1946, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Myron E. Ashby and Bernice L. Ashby. He is survived by his loving family, daughter Summyr Karkoski and grandson Anthony Morlan, sister Myra Strubank, niece Cynthia Strubank Morton (Jim), nephew William Strubank ( Ruth), great-nieces Emma Strubank Adamski ( Sonny) and Brooke Morton, longtime partner Chris Karkoski, along with cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He attended schools in Ypsilanti and graduated from Cleary College with a degree in business administration. He then was called to serve in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam and Cambodia from 1969 to 1971, and was highly decorated for valor.

When he returned home after his discharge, he began working for the City of Ypsilanti as the City Clerk and as Acting City Manager. He moved to Arizona in 1976 and began a long career in real estate with Tom Jackson and Associates in Scottsdale. He was also affiliated with Better Homes and Gardens, Coldwell Banker Success and West USA Realty. Jim helped many people find the home of their dreams.

His great passions were architecture and design, being with friends and family, and travel.

Upon retirement, he made his home in Prescott, Arizona, where he enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the community.

A celebration of his life will be held at Church of the Epiphany, 2222 South Price Road, Tempe, Arizona 85282. It will be in the Fellowship Hall 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. All are invited to the celebration. A private burial with Final Commendation with full military honors will be held at the Prescott National Cemetery.
