PRESCOTT VALLEY- Police arrested a man on November 4 and charged him with sexually molesting a girl from the time she was 10 years old until she was 17, a PVPD spokesman said.
Clarence A. Jones, 69, was charged with 28 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, 16 counts sexual conduct with a minor, and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The abuse began in 2005, and continued until 2012, when the victim moved out of state, Sgt. Scott Stebbins said.
A Child Protective Services investigation in 2012, based on a friend's report that the girl was being molested, could not be substantiated, Stebbins said. Two problems hindered police: the fact that the victim had moved out of state and that she denied she was a victim of the crime, he added.
The case was re-opened recently after police were tipped that Jones was in possession of child pornography, Stebbins said, and, armed with a search warrant, they found an "extensive" collection of child porn downloaded from the Internet as well as "sexually graphic videos he had made of himself with the child victim."
Detectives again contacted the victim, now 19, who cooperated and said she was "emotionally relived that the truth was finally out," Stebbins said.
Jones is being held without bond at the Camp Verde jail.
