KINGMAN, Ariz. - A man charged in the disappearance and death of an Arizona girl wants to represent himself in the case.
A hearing on the request from Justin James Rector is scheduled Wednesday in Mohave County Superior Court.
Rector has pleaded not guilty to charges including first-degree murder and kidnapping. He was arrested shortly after the body of 8-year-old Isabella "Bella" Grogan-Cannella was found near her home in Bullhead City.
Rector told police he smoked meth in the family's home when Isabella was reported missing Sept. 2.
Rector's attorney, Harry Moore, said Rector's prolonged methamphetamine use might impact his client's ability to aid in his defense.
Bullhead City police said they believe Isabella's mother supplied Rector with methamphetamine and arrested her last month on felony drug charges.
