Prescott police get $35,000 in state grant funds

PRESCOTT - The Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has awarded two traffic safety grants, for a total of $35,000, to the Prescott Police Department, a PPD spokesperson said.

The funds are intended to help the department with overtime pay for officers taking part in DUI saturation patrols, as well as speed and aggressive driver enforcement, Lt. Amy Bonney said. PPD also will use some of the money to pay for educational presentations.

The grant means the department will be able to conduct at least one enhanced DUI enforcement detail a month, Bonney said, and will also do a minimum of eight speed and aggressive driver details "at known problem areas throughout Prescott."

The grant period runs from October 3024 to September 2015, she added.
