A graveside service for Billie Lee Peyton, age 80, of Newark, Ohio, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Bill Wayt officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Peyton passed away May 22, 2014, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born May 9, 1934, in New Straitsville, Ohio.
Mr. Peyton, a Purple Heart recipient, proudly served his country for 17 years in The United States Marine Corps as a staff sergeant. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he received an injury that required him to retire from the military. He also worked as a mechanic for Frederick Cass Service Station and Jeffries Supply Company, and was a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Kayanne (Dan) Baker of Prescott, Ariz.; cousins Barbara (Glenn) Henry of Newark, Peg and Tom O'Reilly and Kenny and Pam Campbell; grandchildren Amy, Chris, Lisa and Laura; great-grandchildren Olivia, McKenna, Conner, Klein and Alyson; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Shields) Cass Peyton, who passed away in 1999; his mother, Mildred Marie (Peyton) Reynolds; and a stepson, Dennis Cass.
