The 2014 spring adult roller hockey season concluded at Pioneer Park in Prescott over the weekend with a turnover in the last minute of regulation that decided the championship in dramatic fashion.
It took no time for the visiting team, the Shenanigans, to put the home team, the Goonies, in an 0-3 hole after the first period. The Shenanigans' scoring tandem of Cooper King and Steve Reddington combined for three goals and four assists in the opening period, threatening to turn the title game into a rout.
But action turned in the second period.
Goonies scoring leader Brent Nielsen put five goals into the Shenanigans' net.
After a late score by King tied the score at 5-5, the Goonies' Keegan Lamb put in the game-winner after a deflected shot from the Shenanigans' Eric Brown.
The errant puck was picked up by Lamb, who faced Shenanigans goalie Brian Blacketer on a breakaway to the net. Lamb scored with just 45 seconds left in the game to complete the remarkable comeback and ice the championship for the Goonies.
