Vern (LaVerne) Schultz

Vern Schultz passed away peacefully in his sleep April 8, 2014, at the age of 87 in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on July 6, 1926, in Victor, Iowa, to Viola and Henry Schultz.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Muriel Schultz, and by his son Gary. He is survived by his daughters Jan, Jody and Laurie; his son Jeff; daughter-in-law Mary; sons-in-law Jeff and Paul; grandchildren Jamie, Amie, Amanda, Kyle, Jacob and Sam; sisters-in-law Evie and Marge; brother-in-law Harry; and six nephews.

Vern graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, in 1950, with a degree in chemistry. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1945 to 1946. He began his long career with DuPont in Fort Madison, Iowa, before transferring to Mt. Prospect, Ill., in 1963. He retired to Prescott 24 years ago and has happily lived there ever since.

He was a proud father and devoted husband. He took his family on camping and fishing trips around the U.S. and Canada, which were fun adventures for everyone.

He and Muriel continued their love of travel throughout their years, always planning their next trip. They went around the world and back again, creating a lifetime's worth of friends and memories.

Vern was a memorable man who made an impression on all those who were blessed to know him. His sense of fun kept us laughing and he will be greatly missed.

His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley, Ariz.

Donations can be made in Vern's name to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 630 Park Ave., Prescott, AZ 86303, or Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) Foundation, 1003 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301.
