Letter: Salute to Heroes a way to thank first responders

On Saturday, March 29, more than 7,500 people came out to the 4th annual Salute to Heroes event in the Tim's Toyota Center parking lot. The Arizona Sundogs and a number of local sponsors made possible activities such as demonstrations by Prescott Valley and Yavapai County Sheriff's K9s, rescue and rappelling demos, and tours of helicopters, police, fire and SWAT vehicles. Kids and adults alike had a great time getting to know local veterans, law enforcement officers, fire and emergency medical personnel. The Bigfoot monster truck display and car crush along with the classic car show were great hits with the crowd.

A portion of the proceeds from food sales and other items went to USVets, and the thousands of people who attended had a chance to thank those who put their lives in danger every day to protect our freedoms and keep us safe.

Salute to Heroes sponsor Sun Valley Tire thanks Arizona Sundogs, ProForce Law Enforcement Equipment, Davidson's, Tim's Toyota Center, Pepsi, and Papa John's Pizza for their sponsorships, and to local veterans, law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel, and the Bradshaw Mountain High School Jazz Band for their contributions of time and expertise. A special thanks to Prescott Valley Police Cmdr. Art Askew for organizing this great community event.
