Grant D. Brown

Grant D. Brown, a resident of Prescott, Ariz., since 1990, died March 7, 2014. He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Glendora, Calif., in Mrs. Bunn's Maternity Home to Frank H. and Leose (LeTendre) Brown.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Second World War, finishing the war in the Philippines. He made use of the GI Bill, graduating with a BS and MS in botany from Pomona College. Brown was employed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and retired as Assistant Head Deputy Forester. Brown was active in support of his three sons, coaching Little League Baseball teams, sharing his love of the outdoors and serving as a BSA Scout Master. His passions included backpacking, fly-fishing, Southern California history, genealogy research and archaeology. Brown remained active through 2013, including hiking and botanizing in Utah, finding yet one more Atriplex of interest.

He is survived by his sons, Dave (Barbara) of Prescott, Greg (Roxanne) of Sebastopol and Kevin (Kathy) of Flagstaff. He is also survived by grandchildren Jarett of Canon City, Alisha of Incline Village, and Tristan of Sacramento, and Jon of Phoenix, as well as one great-grandchild, Payton. One grandchild, Grant David, preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brother Elwin of South Pasadena and his sister Leose Schuyler of San Carlos. His beloved wife and life mate of 46 years, Marjorie Mudge Brown, preceded him in death in 1994.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Save The Redwoods League, 114 Sansome St., San Francisco, CA 94104.
