Neil Charles McLeod passed away on Feb. 27, 2014 at the age of 85. He was born on Aug. 25, 1928 in Peoria, Ariz. on the farm of his parents, Walter and Xora McLeod.

Neil, "Mac" to some, met his future wife, Louise "Lou" McLeod, while they were both working at the Arizona State Capitol in the early 1960s. They shared 48 happy years of marriage.

Neil graduated from Peoria High School in 1946 where he was elected as State President for the Arizona Future Farmers' of America. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. For a majority of his career, he worked as a highway patrolman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, which provided an opportunity for him to serve as the Aid to both Governors Paul Fannin and Jack Williams. After his retirement from DPS he obtained a bachelor's degree and master's degree from ASU, which led to teaching and counseling for Dysart Public Schools for several years.

Neil is survived by his wife Lou; children, Vicki Balentine (John), Judith McLeod and Robin Ault (Dave); eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014 at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Ariz. Funeral services will also be at West Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 11 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow.
