'Mr. Bill' and skilled bus driver receive school's VIP awards
The Humboldt Unified School District governing board members honored bus driver Stella Kiser and maintenance technician William Wilson as the district's VIPs at the special meeting July 22.
Wilson has been with the district since July 2006, and works on electrical, plumbing and construction projects at all school sites. Ben Peters, HUSD director of maintenance, said Wilson is dependable and dedicated to quality workmanship.
"We call him 'Mr. Bill' and he is my right-hand man," Peters said. "He can build a wall and remove one, if needed; add a receptacle or install a sink. He is proficient in all construction trades."
Kiser has worked in the HUSD transportation department for 18 years, driving both regular education and special needs routes. Director of Transportation Kim Porter said Kiser is an excellent driver, enthusiastic, friendly, and has a positive attitude.
"She has a good rapport with students, parents and teachers," Porter said. "Stella handles difficult student situations with ease and professionalism."
Kiser also works in the office several hours a week where she keeps track of vehicle mileage, fuel receipts, and student counts for reports to the state.
"She is knowledgeable, personable, and continues to show her support and caring attitude toward transportation employees," Porter said.
