School District staff walks the talk and troubleshoots
Liuzzo and Berardi honored
The Humboldt Unified School District honored two of its staff members at the July 8 Governing Board meeting as July's VIPs: Pamela Liuzzo, district nutritionist, and Robin Berardi, IT Helpdesk technician.
Berardi is entering her 12th year with the district, having been the computer aide at both Lake Valley and Granville elementary schools. After substituting with the Information Technology department, Patrick Keeling, HUSD director of IT, hired her on fulltime as information services helpdesk technician a year ago.
"Robin's customer service skills are outstanding," Keeling said.
Her duties include answering phone calls, assigning helpdesk tasks, troubleshooting IT issues remotely, repairing or recycling equipment, and collaborating with the IT team.
"Even when there is an issue that Robin is unable to resolve remotely, staff are happy just to speak with her," Keeling said.
Tami Hitt-Wyant, HUSD director of food and nutrition, nominated Liuzzo for her positive attitude, enthusiasm and passion for teaching and supporting students, staff and the community about good nutrition and the importance of staying physically fit.
Liuzzo started with the district in 2012; her first day on the job the new Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act went into effect.
"Pam has been instrumental in educating our staff on the new regulations while providing on-site support to guide staff through all the changes," Hitt-Wyant said.
Liuzzo prepares menus, recipes and labels, which has impressed state evaluators when they visit the district. Her background as a personal trainer contributes to her nutrition education in the classroom, in parent/guardian workshops, and with community groups like the Boy Scouts and the girls softball league.
"She is an individual who practices what she preaches," Hitt-Wyant said.
