Letter: Only God can sustain America
Thank you for including Hobby Lobby's page in the Courier commemorating the Fourth of July - "'Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,' Psalms 33:12." As we celebrate the birth of our nation, it is with thankfulness that we can read sentiment by our founding fathers, such as Patrick Henry, who stated that, "There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations."
As we are obedient to His word, we can take comfort in the knowledge that the future of our country is in the hands of our creator. Yet, let us heed this warning from Jedediah Morse, that, "Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government - and all blessings which flow from them - must fall with them."
While the light of the gospel can never be extinguished, the country that seeks to eliminate God and scripture will indeed topple. American citizens must return to the biblical principles on which the USA was founded. From the article's quote of the House Judiciary Report of March 27, 1854: "At the time of the adoption of the Constitution and the amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged. In this age, there can be no substitute for Christianity. That was the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendents." Let us pray that our country deviates no further from the source of its inspiration - God. Again, much appreciation to Hobby Lobby, and the Daily Courier, for truthful reminders on our nation's birthday.
