Arizona teams, but no Yavapai, in preseason baseball & softball polls

The Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) baseball and softball seasons get under way this Friday, and national pollsters are already eyeing Arizona.

The NJCAA's first Division 1 preseason polls of the 2014 spring season were released on Monday, and the ACCAC features two Top 10 baseball clubs.

Central Arizona out of Coolidge won the Arizona league last year with a 29-9 record in conference and a 43-15 overall record. The pollsters ranked Central No. 6 in the nation in Monday's preseason poll.

Meanwhile, Arizona's Cochise College followed up its breakout 2013 season with a No. 10 preseason ranking.

The Apaches finished second to Central with a 28-10 conference record and a state-best 52 wins overall on their way to a semifinalist finish at the NJCAA World Series. Only Connors State (Okla.) had more wins (53) among Div.1 teams.

Two Arizona softball teams were among the Top 20 in the first preseason poll of the spring, including Pima, which is slotted at No. 4. The Aztecs won an Arizona-best 50 games in 2013, finishing second in the ACCAC.

Eastern Arizona is ranked No. 18 in the new poll.
