Who better to perform the sounds of the band Chicago than someone who has played with the famous group and "cut his teeth on the tunes" of the masters of rock? That person would be Kenny Cetera, who will bring the "Chicago Experience" concert to the Elks Opera House Saturday.
Cetera, who now lives in Los Angeles, grew up on Chicago's south side. His brother, Peter, is an original member of Chicago and toured with the band from 1968 until 1985.
Peter explains how Kenny became a part of Chicago in 1984.
"I brought my brother Kenny into the group Chicago ... to help me sing harmonies, background parts and play percussion and drums. At the time, the band needed a shot in the arm. He was it. Today his 'Chicago Experience' show brings that spirit back again live. Unlike other tribute bands, he was actually on stage and a working, performing part of the original band."
Kenny was with Chicago until his brother left to go solo in 1985. During his months with the band, Kenny added his tenor vocals to several songs on the "Chicago 17" album, including "You're the Inspiration," "Along Comes a Woman," and "Prima Donna."
The Chicago Experience band realizes that "there are a lot of die-hard Chicago fans out there," Kenny Cetera said. "We will bring the experience of being at a Chicago concert," he said, adding that members of the eight-piece band "have all been listening to (Chicago music) for a long time."
