Friday event will benefit 10th annual Highland Games
A salute to Scottish poet Robert Burns on Friday at Celtic Crossings Pub will feature a fundraiser for the Prescott Area Celtic Society's Highland Games, which will take place May 10 and 11.
This year, the Highland Games will celebrate their 10th anniversary and organizers are planning a two-day event at Watson Lake Park, rather than just one day, Jill Nelson, vice president of the Prescott Area Celtic Society, said.
A highlight of Friday's fundraiser at Celtic Crossings Pub in Frontier Village shopping center, will be a reading of Burns' poem, "Ode to Haggis," along with readings of other poems he wrote. The evening begins at 6 p.m.
There will also be a raffle for prizes, such as a set of tickets to the Highland Games.
"It will be a fun, fun night," Nelson said.
A portion of the proceeds from food and beverages will go toward the games, she said.
People who want to attend the fundraiser can make reservations by calling the pub at 443-8454.
The Highland Games will spread across Watson Lake Park, offering dance and piping competitions, large pipe bands, a variety of entertainment, including the Celtic Cowboys and the Wicked Tinkers, merchandise and food vendors and the children's glen.
