'Longfellow Reads Longfellow' at Peregrine Book Co. Thursday

Prescott resident Layne Longfellow, a descendent of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, will read from the CD he produced about his ancestor, "Longfellow Reads Longfellow," 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Peregrine Book Company in downtown Prescott.

Longfellow is the author of "Imaginary Menagerie," a children's book, and "Visual Feast," a book of visual puns. He was once vice president of Prescott College and designed a curriculum that was described in World Book Encyclopedia. He also developed executive wilderness seminars at the Menninger Foundation and expanded this format to Canada's Banff Center, where expeditions included mountaineering, rafting, canoeing, sailing and skiing.

In 2007, Longfellow hosted the celebration of H.W. Longfellow's 200th birthday at the Wayside Inn and read with H.W. Longfellow's great-granddaughter at the National Gallery of Art.

In addition to reading from his ancestor's works, Longfellow will also read some of his favorite poems by Leonard Cohen and Billy Collins.

The Peregrine Book Company is located at 219A N. Cortez St.
