Joan Helen Hockenberger Schroeder Boyce, 74, of Dewey, Ariz., passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Feb. 18, 2014 in Prescott, Ariz. She had recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Joan was born in Rochester, N.Y., to Robert and Dorothy Hockenberger on Sept. 25, 1939. She moved to Wisconsin in 1954 and went to High school at Oconomowoc, Wis. She moved to Williamston, Mich. with her first husband John in 1967. After raising her two children, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Romance and Classical Language Department at Michigan State University. Joan retired in 2001 and then remarried to Jimmie. They have lived in Arizona for the past 12 years.

Joan was an artist. She did work in pastels, oils and watercolor, pastels being her favorite. Joan was a member of the Central Arizona Senior association Art Group, Prescott Valley Art Guild and the Dewey-Humboldt Arts and Culture Group.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Robert Hockenberger; her first husband John Schroeder; and granddaughter Taylor Ann Blair.

Joan is survived by husband Jimmie Boyce; children Sandie Blair (Mark Drouin) of Montreal, Quebec and Chris Schroeder (Nancy) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, Samantha and Christina Blair, Alexander and Samuel Schroeder; stepchildren Cameo Vandenbosch, Jimmie Boyce and Vince Boyce; brother, Jim Hockenberger (Mary Beth); niece Meghan; and nephew Bart.
