Concerts on tap at YC
The Yavapai College Instrumental Department Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra will have a concert called "Fiesta Favorites" at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the college's Performing Art Center.
The performance will feature Spanish and Latin music. Imagine yourself in Spain or Argentina as you listen to a tango, a pasadoble or a flamenco dance tune. The Concert Band pieces include "Tijuana Brass" and "El Tango." The Symphonic Band music includes "El Camino Real" and "Festival de Ladrones." The Symphony Orchestra features "Ritual Fire Dance" from an Andulasian ballet and "Malaga."
On Monday, March 3,, at 7 p.m. at YCPAC, the Big Bands will present an evening of jazz for their first spring semester concert. The Roughriders are playing a variety, including "Just In Time," "Bellavia," "Timeline," and "Mazatlan". The Trailblazers will play the old-time favorite, "Over The Rainbow," which was voted the 20th century's No. 1 song by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The Trailblazers selections also include another favorite, "Just Friends", and the "Haitian Fight Song."
Any donations from the audience to the volunteers of the Friends of Music, an organization affiliated with the Yavapai College Foundation will go directly to scholarships for music students.
Tickets are $7. They may be obtained at the YC Performing Arts Center by calling 776-2000 or at the YCPAC box office. Children under 14 are free.
