Sandra Kennedy to speak at Democratic Women's luncheon

Sandra Kennedy, the first African American statewide elected official in Arizona, will discuss her experience and goals for the future at the monthly luncheon meeting of the Democratic Women of the Prescott Area, (DWPA) on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at Stoneridge Country Club.

Kennedy, an Arizona Corporation Commissioner from 2008-2012, was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 1986, where she served for six years. In 1992, she was elected State Senator and subsequently served three terms.

The launch of her 2014 campaign for Corporation Commission coincides with Black History month. An advocate of diversity, Kennedy has encouraged citizens to learn about African American leaders in Arizona, such as Minority Leader Art Hamilton, Judge Hayzel B. Daniels, Rep. Cloves Campbell, Sr. and Councilman Calvin Goode.

DWPA luncheons cost $15. Meal reservations required by Feb. 19. Contact DWPA in advance for reservation, whether dining or not. Email
