Yavapai baseball's Hermanson hits for cycle in win



Andrew Hermanson hit for the cycle on Tuesday afternoon, leading the Yavapai College baseball team to a 13-7 victory over Glendale C.C. in a non-conference game on the road.

The Roughriders registered 15 hits, seven of which were for extra bases, as their record improved to 4-1, while the Gauchos dropped to 7-2.

Hermanson accomplished a rare feat for Yavapai, going 4-for-5 with a double in the second inning, a triple in the fifth, a single in the sixth and a home run in the eighth.

Austin Paschke (double, 4 RBIs), reigning ACCAC Player of the Week Stephen Carabajal (double, triple, 4 RBIs) and Luke Doyle (triple, 2 RBIs) notched three hits apiece.

Pitcher Nick Sagendorf garnered the win for the Roughriders despite allowing seven runs over eight innings. Sagendorf struck out five, walked two and gave up nine hits.

YC continues non-conference play this afternoon with its 2014 home opener against Salt Lake Community College at Roughrider Park. The doubleheader starts at noon.

Yavapai beat the Bruins, 3-2, at the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic to begin the 2014 season Jan. 31 in Henderson, Nev. Yavapai scored two runs in the ninth to claim the victory.


For his efforts last week, Carbajal, a sophomore outfielder/pitcher, was named ACCAC Player of the Week. The New Mexico native hit a combined .833, going 5-for-6 with two walks and 7 RBIs.
