Mountain Institute JTED certifies students

Students at Mountain Institute JTED (MIJTED), as well as the other 13 Joint Technical Education Districts in Arizona, are sitting for Industry Certifications from now until the Spring. The JTEDs collectively are projected to have students take 4,398 Industry Certifications that will have a total cost of $538,858.

MIJTED students who will be completing their programs and earning industry certifications and licenses have been working in their programs for at least two years. The students attend classes at their home high school as well as at MIJTED to create the total high school experience.

JTEDs train and certify students in high-paying, in-demand career skills, preparing them to go to work or college after high school. MIJTED has a large number of students who will be credentialed compared to the size of the population that MIJTED services. Over this credentialing period 631 students, of MIJTED's total enrollment of 1,346 in the central campus and satellite campuses, will be sitting for industry certifications. Of all the students in MIJTED programs, 47 percent of the students will earn industry credentials. Since some students can take more than one exam, MIJTED will give out 1,226 credentials this school year.

In comparison to the other 13 JTEDs, MIJTED's 47 percent of students receiving credentials ranks tops in the state. Here are the statistics by JTED.

• East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT): 3 percent

• Western Maricopa Education Center (West-Mec): 5 percent

• Pima County JTED: 7 percent

SMALLER DISTRICTS (more comparable to MIJTED):

• Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology (CAVIT): 46 percent

• Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT): 5 percent

• Northeast Arizona Technological Institute for Vocational Education (NATIVE): 1 percent

• Valley Academy of Technical Education (V'ACTE): 4 percent

• Cobre Valley Institute of Technology (CVIT): 2 percent

• Gila Institute for Technology (GIFT): 6 percent

• Cochise Technology District: (CTD): 5 percent

• Western Arizona Vocational Education (WAVE): 40 percent

• Coconino Association for Vacations, Industry, and Technology (CAVIAT): 1 percent

MIJTED programs have implemented not only industry certification for all of its programs, but all except one program include college credit - and even this program will give college credit starting in the 2015-16 school year.
