Letter: Plaza rules changes could have big impact
I read an article in the Daily Courier about the county Board of Supervisors' proposed new ordinance regarding use of the Prescott downtown plaza, and I scratched my head.
The new rules, as reported in the Courier, look exactly the same as the old rules. Dogs must be on leashes and dog doo-doo must be picked up by the owner. Protesters must not pester people. Aggressive panhandling is not allowed. People have already been banned from the park for violations
We, the public, need to know exactly how the new ordinance is different than the old ordinance. Apparently, there were subtle changes in the language. Obviously there is a reason for these subtle changes that the public hasn't been fully informed about.
Even small changes of a few words could create big changes in the types of activities allowed on the square in the future.
I encourage all concerned citizens with time on their hands to read the new and old versions of the ordinance and note all differences. I also encourage the Daily Courier to do the same. Both versions are available online on the county's website.
We have a few weeks to do all the detective work and ask the Board of Supervisors informed questions. Thanks to the BOS for giving us more time to look at it.
