Anniversary: Max and Shirley Kearley
Max and Shirley Kearley will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary with an Open House at their home in Prescott, given in their honor by their son, Gary, daughter Susie and daughter-in-law Patti. Family and friends are invited to join the celebration between 3 and 6 p.m. Aug. 23.
Max and Shirley were married in Compton, Calf., on Sept., 2, 1939, having met at a church social on Christmas Eve of 1938. Max served in the U.S. Navy for two years during WWII and, in 1947, the family relocated to Prescott, where they owned and operated the Hassayampa Court motel for many years. Max was a building contractor and Shirley, mother and homemaker, helped Max with the business. Max was the general contractor for the current sanctuary of the First Baptist Church on Marina Street.
The couple had three children: Gary (wife Audie, deceased 2011), Susie (Gene) Wussow and Dale (deceased 2009). Dale's widow, Patti, is part of their extended family which includes six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
