Jane Cheek has a favor to ask.
AARP is sponsoring a nation-wide talent contest called, "Boomer Super Star." For fun, and because she just had to try, Jane submitted an entry and out of more than 700 entries, she's been selected as one of the 30 semi-finalists. It gets trickier.
The next step will narrow the field down to eight finalists, who will be invited to go to San Diego for the AARP Senior Convention to perform live and be judged again. The chosen "Boomer Super Star," will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a chance at a recording contract.
It's a once-in-a-lifetime event for Jane, and an opportunity to live a secret dream for a while.
This is a talent competition, but there is also a social media component, and that's where our readers become important. Anyone who would like to help Jane get to the next level needs to vote online once a day, for as many days as possible until Aug. 11. Each vote will land the voter in a random drawing for a cash prize of $3,000.
Here's the link to watch Jane's video, and if you like what you see, vote for Jane C:
Voters will be asked to register an email address with AARP, but it's free to enter and incurs no obligation to the voter.
PLEASE NOTE: Vote ONLY once per day, and please do not use voting programs or fake IDs. Jane can be disqualified if this is done (see Rules on the site for details).
Jane is pastor of First Congregational Church and married to local musician Don Cheek, with whom she performs as Cheek2Cheek. Don seems to be the only one thus far who has noticed the irony that she, a preacher, chose to sing the Linda Rondstadt classic, "You're no Good."
