Teen bicyclist riding in crosswalk struck by car

PRESCOTT VALLEY - A 17-year-old male received minor injuries Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Glassford Hill Road and Long Look Drive.

According to a Prescott Valley police report, an adult male was driving his vehicle into the high school parking lot when he struck the bicyclist in a crosswalk. No citations were issued as a result of the collision.

"It is very important to remember that, while riding a bicycle on roadways, a bicyclist needs to follow the same laws as a motor vehicle," said Prescott Valley Police Department Sgt. Brandon Bonney in a March 31 news release.

Bonney said bicyclists are required to walk their bicycles across a crosswalk across a roadway.

"This bicycle was moving at a speed much higher than a pedestrian in this case and increased the odds of a collision, as it would have been difficult to see him coming," Bonney said.
