Northbound Interstate 17 to close briefly to upright crane north of Black Canyon City
PHOENIX - Approximately three miles north of Black Canyon City, northbound Interstate 17 will close temporarily today to allow crews to upright a crane that fell overnight onto the shoulder at milepost 247.
The closure, which is expected to last as long as 20 minutes, will occur between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Northbound I-17 is currently reduced to one lane and there is a 25 mph speed limit through the zone. The restriction is expected to remain until the end of the day. ADOT urges motorists to allow extra travel time and plan accordingly.
The crane was being used in a maintenance and paving project on northbound I-17 between Coldwater Canyon Road and Crown King exit (mileposts 245-250). The project consists of removal of rock and debris behind the concrete barrier along and the removal of a layer of existing asphalt and replaced with new rubberized asphalt through the work zone.
