Yavapai College volleyball saw its seven-match winning streak end on Friday at the Badger Bash Tournament in Ephraim, Utah, although the hometown club would bounce back in a nightcap.
The Roughriders lost to Colby (Kan.) College in a close one, 3-2, during the afternoon before responding with a 3-0 win over Colorado Northwestern in the opening round of the two-day tournament.
In the first match, YC took Colby not only to the maximum five sets, but to extra points in the final game, ultimately suffering the setback, 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-17.
Roughriders coach Zach Shaver said Yavapai (13-3 overall record) struggled offensively versus Colby, tallying a hitting percentage of just .087 for the match.
Casey Johnson was the lone YC player to tally double-digit kills with 15. She also collected 16 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. In contrast, the Roughriders' other hitters collected a combined 27 kills.
However, Yavapai served and blocked well, registering 12 aces and 10 total blocks for the match.
The Roughriders will play two final matches at the Badger Bash Tournament Saturday when they lock horns with Adams State (Colo.) University's JV team at 11 a.m. and event host Snow (Utah) College at 5 p.m.
