Chino cross country boys 3rd, girls 5th in Payson

Chino boys 3rd, girls 5th at Payson Invite

The Cougars opened their 2013 season at Payson on Wednesday, and McKenzie Nez took third overall among all boys runners with a time of 18:49.

The boys team took third place overall with 89 points.

Also placing for Chino Valley were Andy Freitag (11th, 20:05), Tim Rudiger (12th, 20:07), Uriel Saldana (27th, 21:10), Stanley Swiacki (38th, 21:33) and Daniel Shepherd (52nd, 22:53).

The Chino girls team clinched fifth place overall with 139 points.

Cheyanne Penton was first across the line for the Cougars, placing 11th with a time of (23:54). Also finishing for the girls were McKeisha Nez (31st, 26:30), Natalie Malloy (32nd, 26:41), Chloe Vallejo (37th, 27:01), Hannah Sanders (68th, 30:15), Micaela Chavez (74th, 32:11), Christina Ballard (76th, 33:00).

The Cougars head to Flagstaff this Saturday morning to join Prescott, Bradshaw Mountain and a legion of other programs at the annual Peaks Invitational.
