Ellen Ginn was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Ladysmith, Wis., to James and Eva Patterson. The family moved to Iowa when she was 4 years old.

She was married to Eugene Ginn in 1943. In 1946, the family moved to Chino Valley, Ariz., where they lived until she died, Oct. 24, 2013. Three children were born to them and survive her.

Ellen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She established Ginn Reality where she was a broker for 28 years. She and her husband published Chino's first newspaper, "The Chino Shopper," which was the forerunner of the Chino Review. She wrote a weekly column for the Prescott Courier, Chino Chips, under the pseudonym Chino Charlie for 10 years. She served as the secretary for the Chino Valley Irrigation District for 21 years and was a long-time 4-H leader. She also served on the Chino Valley Cemetery Board for 25 years. She was involved in many church and community activities throughout her life.

Ellen authored two books, "Cowchips and Calluses," which is a history of Chino Valley from 1846-1976, and "Outing Flannel Petticoats," an autobiographical account of her growing-up years.

Ellen and Eugene celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 12, 2013. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children, Charlotte (Dale) Dees, Beverly (Roy) West and John (Karen) Ginn, all of Chino Valley; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on West Perkinsville Road in Chino Valley. A viewing will be at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be sent to the Chino Valley Cemetery, P.O. Box 3106, Chino Valley, AZ 86323.
