Obituary: Shirley Ann Whitney

Shirley Ann Whitney went to Heaven on Sept. 28, 2013, at the age of 78. She died in the home of her daughter after a prolonged illness.

Shirley was born in the Spring Brook, Wis., on May 20, 1935, to Jens Garfield and Sigrund Halvorson. She graduated from Menomonie High School and was married in 1954 to Robert C. Whitney in Menomonie, Wis. Shirley and Bob had five children: Pamela (Lee), Peggy (Jim), Timothy (Belinda), Christopher (Keren) and Jeffrey Whitney. After retiring to Arizona, she began a homeless ministry in Prescott Valley called The Masters Clothes Closet (still in operation) and was known for providing a roof and meals for homeless in their area. Shirley loved and was loved dearly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, children, 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her brother, Gordon (Geri).

Memorials are preferred to First Southern Baptist Building Fund in Prescott Valley, AZ 86314 where Shirl was a member. The family expresses enormous gratitude to her dear friends in Arizona for their love and care.
