Orme School to retire jersey of fallen Granite Mountain Hotshot Travis Carter
The Orme School in Mayer will conduct a special ceremony before its Homecoming football game Friday to honor the memory of Granite Mountain Hotshot Travis Carter.
Carter, one of the 19 firefighters who died while battling the Yarnell Hill wildfire June 30, was a 1999 Orme graduate who played on the gridiron for the Warriors.
As part of the ceremony, the school will retire Carter's No. 45 jersey.
Orme, whose athletic programs are now a part of the Arizona Charter Athletic Association (AZCAA), will then battle Casa Grande Mission Heights Prep at 7 p.m.
In addition, there will be a pre-game barbecue at Miller-Barrick Field, 1000 Orme School Road, at 5:30 p.m. Dessert and coffee will follow in the campus' Founders Hall immediately after the contest.
