The Central Arizona Concert Band will begin its 17th season with traditional and modern compositions on Sunday, Oct. 6.

"The program will feature our own Gary Flowers as clarinet soloist performing 'Collage for Clarinet and Band,'" conductor Clydene Dechert said. The concert will also feature "A Symphony of Fables," in which the band provides the musical interpretation, while Rick Denney narrates the story of an unusual alliance between a lion and a mouse. A performance of Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies" featuring vocalists Jane Osborn, Karen Denney, Rich Longfield and Dave Morefield, rounds out a program that includes selections by Leroy Anderson and Victor Herbert.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Davis Learning Center. Admission at the door is $10 for adults and $3 for those under 18 and students with ID. For information, call 636-0229.
